About
ilo kama sona ("learning tool") is a course in toki pona. It covers the words of pu and ku suli, all of the grammar, and how to express yourself with them.
How it teaches
- Retrieval practice. You learn by recalling, not rereading. Almost everything here is a question.
- Spaced repetition. Every word and grammar pattern is scheduled with FSRS, which brings it back just before you'd forget it.
- Short explicit explanations. Each unit begins with a brief note on the rule, followed by plenty of examples.
- From recognition to production. Lessons start with choosing, move on to assembling sentences, and end with writing your own.
- Interleaving. Lessons mix in earlier material, and reviews mix everything.
- Practice until correct. Mistakes come back later in the same session.
- Real sentences. Exercises use only words you've learned, drawn from thousands of sentences written by toki pona speakers.
